Job Description

Position: Cardiac Sonographer (Per Diem / PRN)

Location: PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center | Bellingham, Washington

Schedule: 10-Hour Day Shifts

Pay Range: $50.16 - $75.29/hr

Differential: Additional 15% in lieu of benefits

Some roles offer flexibility. Others offer clinical depth. This one gives you both.

Picture yourself walking into a cardiac imaging department where your experience is genuinely trusted. You're not simply collecting measurements and moving on to the next patient. You're using your understanding of cardiac anatomy, pathology, and ultrasound technology to tailor each exam, investigate findings, and help ensure the interpreting clinician receives the clearest possible picture.

At PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, you'll remain connected to meaningful cardiac work while enjoying the flexibility many experienced sonographers reach a point in their career to appreciate. Whether you're balancing family, semi-retirement, another position, travel, or simply want more control over your schedule, this role allows you to continue doing important work without sacrificing the life you've built outside the hospital.

This role is based at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham but also serves patients throughout our Northwest Network. As part of the position, you'll regularly travel to satellite locations including Lynden, Sedro-Woolley, Anacortes, and Friday Harbor as staffing and patient care needs require.

For sonographers who enjoy variety, that's part of the appeal. One week may have you working in Bellingham, while another includes supporting a smaller community clinic where your expertise has a direct impact on local access to cardiac care. You'll become part of a regional cardiac team that helps ensure patients receive high-quality echocardiography services close to home.

PeaceHealth is a person-first, values-driven, highly trusted organization that believes caring for caregivers is just as important as caring for patients. You'll feel that commitment in the way teams support one another, the respect shown for clinical expertise, and the shared focus on delivering exceptional care.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • Flexibility without giving up meaningful cardiac imaging work
  • 15% differential in lieu of benefits, increasing your hourly earnings
  • Opportunity to perform adult echocardiography, TEE, and contrast studies
  • A high level of clinical autonomy where your judgment matters
  • Exposure to a diverse patient population across Northwest Washington locations

Important to Know

This is not a single-site Cardiac Sonographer position. While based in Bellingham, caregivers in this role are expected to travel throughout the PeaceHealth Northwest Network, including Lynden, Sedro-Woolley, Anacortes, and Friday Harbor, to support patient care needs.

What Your Day Feels Like

You review the schedule and notice a mix of routine studies, complex cardiac histories, and a TEE later in the day.

A patient's symptoms don't fully match what's in the order. You take a closer look, expand the exam, and capture additional views because experience tells you there's more to the story.

You collaborate with cardiologists, communicate important findings when needed, and know your work directly supports critical treatment decisions.

The day moves quickly, but not because you're being rushed. It's because you're engaged.

And when the shift ends, it ends.

Who Thrives Here

  • People who enjoy solving clinical puzzles
  • Professionals who take pride in the details others might miss
  • Sonographers who prefer being trusted over being micromanaged
  • Team members who value collaboration but are comfortable working independently
  • Caregivers who want flexibility without stepping away from their profession

Why You'll Love Living Here

Bellingham offers something increasingly difficult to find: room to breathe.

You can finish your shift and be on a trail, at the waterfront, or sitting with friends at a local coffee shop instead of spending hours in traffic. The city is large enough to offer excellent dining, arts, and recreation, yet small enough to feel approachable and connected.

For many healthcare professionals, it's the kind of place that quietly becomes home.
