• Role: Full-time Day Shift Surgical Technologist
• Schedule : You'll work three 12-hour day shifts each week, plus a Call rotation
• U nit: 10 OR suites, surgeries include: Trauma, ENT, GYN, General, Urology, Vascular, Ortho, Plastics, Neuro/Spine, OMS
• Hospital: St. Joseph Medical Center is 252-beds with a level II trauma center

Job Summary

In this position you'll be responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

Essential Functions

• Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
• Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
• Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
• Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
• Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
• Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
• May be required to provide scheduling support when working during non-standard business hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Required: Completion of a Surgical Technologist Training Program
• Required: WA State Surgical Technologist Registration (Washington Requirement)
• Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support Certification
• Preferred: 1 year experience as a surgical technologist experience in a full-service Operating Room
• Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist
• Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

• Well organized, detail oriented and self motivated (Required)
• Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (Required)
• Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision (Required)
• Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required)
• Understanding of operating room protocols (Required)
  
  

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Working Conditions

Lifting

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
• Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
• Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.
  
  

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
  
  

Mental/Visual

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
