- Position: Full-time Day shift OB Surgical Technologist
- Schedule: Work three 12-hour day shifts each week, 7am - 7:30pm
- Unit: 10-bed Labor & Delivery unit with 2 OR suites
- Hospital: St. Joseph Medical Center, 253-bed acute care hospital with level II trauma center
- Location: On the shores of Bellingham Bay with Mount Baker at its backdrop, Bellingham, WA is just 45 minutes South of Vancouver BC and 90 miles North of Seattle. - A current wage range of $34.82 – $52.28 (will increase in June). The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable SEIU collective bargaining agreement

Position Details: This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the obstetrical operative patient and/or her infant.
Essential Functions
- Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
- Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
- Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
- Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
- Assists in vaginal births
- Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
- Maintain unit supplies by requisitioning and receiving supplies then stocking patient rooms and supply areas to meet patient care needs. Inventory control.
- Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Requires: High School Diploma Required: or equivalent
- Requires: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist
- Requires: Minimum of 1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist, prefer experience with obstetrical and gynecologic surgeries
- Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs
- Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
- Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist
- Required: Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification
Skills
- Well organized, detail oriented and self motivated (Required)
- Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (Required)
- Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision (Required)
- Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required)
- Understanding of operating room protocols (Required)
Working Conditions
Lifting
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
- Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
- Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
- Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
