Job Title: Production Assistant
Location: First Cut Farm – Skagit Valley, WA
Reports to: Farm Owner
Employment Type: Seasonal, hourly, non-exempt (30-50 hrs/week with opportunity for full time year round)

First Cut Farm is a certified organic vegetable operation farming 120 acres in the beautiful Skagit Valley. With a focus on efficient, mechanized production, we cultivate a variety of vegetable and grain crops. Position Overview

The Production Assistant will help to carry out the production plan. This role is a hands-on field position that supports daily farm operations. This position offers a balance of independent, focused work and collaborative teamwork. This role is ideal for someone who likes outdoor work, loves growing food, wants to build farming skills, and is comfortable taking responsibility once trained.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with a wide range of general farm tasks: planting, cultivation, row cover, fertilization, construction projects, harvest, and more.

· Mechanical weed management with a wide range of tractor tools.

· Set up and maintain irrigation systems: pump management, moving reels, hand line

· Assist Equipment Manager with equipment set up, maintenance and repairs.

· Prepare orders, load trucks, and deliver locally.

· Keep detailed records of farm operations.

· Help with bulk harvest of potatoes and onions.

· Operate tractors, forklifts, and other farm equipment.

Requirements

· 1+ years of experience farming, preferably in organic vegetable production.

· Valid driver’s license required to fulfill duties.

· Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

· Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb on and off machinery, and spend extended periods sitting, standing, walking, or bending

· Comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment; Spanish language skills or a strong ability to collaborate across language barriers is a plus.

· Flexible and adaptable; comfortable changing direction quickly as field, weather, and crop needs shift.

· Able to work independently, take ownership, and communicate clearly with managers and crew.

Bonus Qualifications

· Some prior experience operating agricultural or construction equipment

· Experience driving pick-up trucks with trailers

· Spanish language fluency

Schedule & Compensation

· Hourly; typical schedule 5 days per week with additional hours as needed.

· Compensation: $20-$26 per hour, DOE, plus: overtime pay (1.5x wage) for hours above 40 per week, PTO (accrued at 1 hour per 40 hours worked), free farm produce, and professional development support including training funds.
