The Health and Community Studies Department maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary, full and part-time teaching positions as part of the Compass 2 Campus Program.  In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year and summer sessions, applications are accepted continuously for temporary non-tenure track teaching positions on a part-time basis with occasional opportunities for temporary, full-time appointments.  Positions may become available at any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis.

About the Position

Teach WWU education sections for Compass to Campus courses C2C 201- WWU Youth Mentoring I; C2C 202- WWU Youth Mentoring II; or C2C 203- Youth Mentoring Toward Social Justice. Attend weekly program meetings.

The Compass 2 Campus program is a mentoring program with a mission to increase access to higher education for students in Whatcom and Skagit counties who have been historically excluded from higher education by providing low-income and Black, Indigenous, and students of color with trained college student mentors.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Compass 2 Campus Executive Director to recruit college students to serve as mentors and deliver program defined mentoring curriculum.
  • Have involvement in preparing for the yearly campus 5th grade tour and fundraising events.
  • Teach WWU education sections for courses C2C 201, C2C 202-WWU Youth Mentoring I - WWU Youth Mentoring II or C2C 203 Youth Mentoring Toward Social Justice.
Required Qualifications
  • MA, MEd, or MIT in education
  • Teaching experience in both P-12 schools and higher education (community, technical college or university)
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse, underrepresented populations (students and staff) and proven understanding of methods of multi-cultural education
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Computer skills for online teaching strategies
