WECU is seeking a Retail District Director to join our Retail Management team located in Bellingham, WA. This position is focused primarily on leadership, coaching, and strategic district stewardship. The Retail District Director sets the vision for the territory, leads through change, and develops leaders to drive performance, engagement, and consistency. With a strong people‑centered approach and an operational mindset, this role ensures the district delivers exceptional member experiences, maintains compliance and risk standards, and builds strong community presence. The role partners with other leaders in the organization to establish goals, strategies and operational procedures that maximize the effectiveness of our overall financial center network and the impact that we have on our membership, teammates and community. This position is ideal for a seasoned leader who excels at leading leaders and sustains high performance in a multi-unit environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create the environment for team members to successfully deliver on our mission: We make a meaningful difference in the lives of our members.
  • Direct sales and service activities to ensure annual goals are met and financial plan is achieved.
  • Provide timely coaching, documented feedback, and dialogs for direct reports.
  • Direct responsibility for supervisory functions including recruiting, hiring, terminations, promotions, transfers, performance management actions and policies for department personnel conducted in accordance with applicable statutes (e.g., EEO, OSHA, FLSA, etc.).
  • Actively participates in strategic business planning, goal setting and budget process for assigned financial centers and overall financial center network.
  • Provides strategic leadership across assigned areas of responsibility, ensuring decisions align with organizational priorities and advance key strategic initiatives.
  • Leads, directs and participates in development efforts in the designated market to include: calling on businesses and centers of influence, community events, and non-profit organization engagement.
  • Ensures a positive working relationship between all credit union departments to achieve project, production and service goals.
  • Partners with the Director, Retail Administration to ensure department policies and procedures are accurate, reflect current regulations and effectively communicated, maintained and implemented across financial center teams.
  • Monitors and recommends changes to operating processes for efficiency; researches and develops new policies and procedures.
  • Assist with external and internal audits as necessary.
  • Assist the Director, Retail Administration with the monitoring and maintaining of Disaster Recovery Plans for business processes within specific area of responsibility.
  • Prepare and monitor annual expense budgets for financial centers within assigned district.
  • May occasionally serve as temporary financial center manager in the event of unforeseen vacancies.
  • May serve as Interim Vice President, Branch Banking in their absence or unforeseen vacancy.
  • Always understand and comply with branch security procedures.
  • Exercises authority level and decision-making skills to employ sound judgment, maintaining knowledge of and adhering to all accuracy standards described in internal and external policies and procedures.
  • Follow WECU’s policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and may also assist others to complete tasks and work assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus, eight years’ related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree and/or graduate level certificate in industry is preferred.
  • Relevant training in a credit union, bank or other financial institution preferred or any documented work experience which provides the candidate with equivalent knowledge and/or experience of the above minimum requirements.
  • Experience in multi-unit management or managing multiple departments is preferred. Five or more years of leadership experience required, preferably in retail financial center environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to write advanced correspondence, memos, reports and procedures.
  • Effectively presents information in both one-on-one and group situations to members, potential members and other employees of the credit union.
  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work involves motivating or influencing others.

COMPENSATION:

The salary range for this position is from $108,786 to $153,581 annually.
