WECU is seeking a Real Estate Loan Underwriting Supervisor to join our Real Estate department in Bellingham, WA. This position oversees all aspects of real estate loan underwriting. The Real Estate Loan Underwriting Supervisor is responsible for hiring, training, coaching, and development of Real Estate Loan Underwriters. They ensure that the team delivers quality work through efficient, knowledgeable, and timely loan underwriting. They are responsible for underwriting compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for establishing Loan Underwriter expectations and holding staff accountable for performance levels.
  • Ensures that every aspect of real estate loan underwriting is functioning and efficient.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of underwriting to ensure effective and efficient operation.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling and processing timecards.
  • Prepares and performs introductory progress reports and annual reviews for real estate loan servicing team members.
  • Provides reports as requested by the Real Estate Loan Manager.
  • Responsible for the training and coaching of Real Estate Loan Underwriters.
  • Communicates relevant product, service, and policy information to staff.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Real Estate Loan Underwriter.
  • Remain current on changes within the legal, regulatory, economic, competitive and technology environment that may affect real estate lending functions.
  • Stay abreast of real estate secondary market guidelines and educate staff on changes.
  • Keep informed about credit union history, philosophy and changes to organizational policies and procedures by participating in staff and operational meetings.
  • Train new real estate employees, current real estate employees and employees coming for cross-training on real estate loan products and underwriting requirements.
  • Type letters, forms, procedures, guidelines, and other information using knowledge of WECU’s policies and general office practices.
  • Monitor vendor contracts and service agreements, hold vendors accountable for their actions, and perform detailed responsibilities as noted in our board-approved Vendor Management Program on an established schedule.
  • Underwrite employee real estate loans per policy and procedures.
  • Ensures that all real estate loan underwriting procedures are reviewed and updated annually or earlier if needed.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all real estate loans.
  • Review all subordination and partial reconveyance requests and recommend approval to Real Estate Loan Manager.
  • Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
  • Follow policy and procedures related to OFAC by consistently running entities and non-member check payee names through the Bridger system.
  • Follow policy and procedures related to SARs by monitoring and reporting suspicious activity to the Compliance department. Notify immediate supervisor of any substantive discrepancies with respect to information obtained under the CIP, including fraudulent identification, fraudulent applications, etc.
  • Complete mandatory BSA/AML annual training via online web course.
  • Perform specific and delegated duties as assigned by management.
  • Process Applications through FICS, Desktop Underwriter and FSP software.
  • Prepare loan documents for closing.
  • Responsible for properly maintaining loan information on computer and all follow-up paperwork using knowledge of record keeping compliance and related procedures.
  • Sell loans on the secondary market.
  • Post real estate interest rates
  • Follows WECU’s policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and may also assist others to complete tasks and work assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Job requires a college degree or comparable level of language, math, and reasoning skills. Two years of experience in a related field with equal responsibilities is acceptable. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.
  • FHA, VA, and USDA certification required.
  • Working knowledge of the credit union’s products and services.
  • Working knowledge of organization’s policies/procedures and credit union’s service philosophy.
  • Working knowledge of safety and security programs for false alarms, robberies, bomb threats and extortion.
  • Working knowledge of credit union’s real estate loan processing platforms.
  • Knowledge of state and federal lending regulations.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative, and tact in dealing with members, management, and staff.
  • Ability to represent the credit union in a positive, professional manner in person, on the telephone and in written correspondence.
  • Knowledge in processing and packaging secondary market loans.

COMPENSATION:

The salary range for this position is $91,300. To $128,894. annually.
