The primary focus of this position is to provide assistance and information about available resources to the individuals, families, youth, and community members who visit or contact the Community Resource Center. The Support Specialist works in collaboration with the entire Center team and helps identify service gaps within the community. Maintaining a positive and friendly environment is a must while providing assistance and serving visitors and clients.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
- Provide information, referral, and navigation services in person and by phone
- Help visitors to utilize resources, including appointment scheduling, completion of applications for programs that they may be eligible for, and offering referrals to other services
- Effectively work with staff, participants and community members from diverse backgrounds to reduce cultural and socioeconomic barriers
- Provide feedback to the Site Director
- Encourage participants’ and community members’ involvement with the Community Resource Center
- Strictly follow HIPAA guidelines and VOAWW policies
- Assist in researching and assessing community needs, and identifying opportunities for programs, services and volunteerism
- Provide support with Center activities
- Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork
- Cultivate, develop and retain positive relationships within the community
- In collaboration with the Site Director, identify, contact and coordinate with organizations to partner for community events, programs and services that meet community needs
- Participate in outreach for recruitment of individuals and families to assist with the Community Resource Center activities and services
- Other work related duties as assigned

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- AA or BA degree in Human Services related field preferred
- Ability to work independently with strong problem solving skills
- Working knowledge and understanding of MS Office products including Word and Excel. Ability to learn technology needed of position.
- Ability to work with and lead volunteers
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- May be required to work some evenings and weekends
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
