POSITION SUMMARY: The Health & Wellness Manager will lead the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive wellness programs that promote healthy lifestyles and meet the diverse needs of our community. This hands-on position will not only design but also teach programming courses, ensuring that staff and members are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed. This role emphasizes strategic leadership, staff development, community engagement, and operational excellence to ensure high-quality, inclusive, and impactful health and wellness offerings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Leadership & Innovation

  • Design, implement, and evaluate a diverse range of wellness programs, including group exercise, personal training, chronic disease prevention, and youth fitness initiatives.
  • Monitor industry trends to introduce innovative programs that enhance member engagement and satisfaction.
  • Ensure all programs align with YMCA standards and effectively address community health needs.

Staff Management & Development

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate wellness staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and professional development sessions to maintain high performance standards.
  • Manage staff scheduling, payroll, and performance evaluations in accordance with organizational policies.

Operational Oversight

  • Develop and manage the wellness department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee the maintenance and safety of wellness facilities and equipment, coordinating repairs and upgrades as necessary.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures to ensure a secure environment for all participants.

Community Engagement & Collaboration

  • Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations, healthcare providers, and community groups to expand program reach and impact.
  • Represent the YMCA at community events and initiatives, promoting wellness programs and fostering relationships.
  • Lead and participate in fundraising activities, including the Annual Campaign, to support program sustainability.

Member Experience & Retention

  • Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages member participation and retention.
  • Address member inquiries and concerns promptly, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and engagement.
  • Utilize feedback and data analytics to continuously improve program offerings and member experiences.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lead fitness classes and wellness activities as needed.
  • Capacity to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet program needs.

Qualifications & Benefits

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in health and wellness program management.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience, including staff development and performance management.
  • Proficiency in budget management and operational planning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse populations.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications
  • The ideal candidate must be adept at conflict management, possess pragmatic thinking, and be ready to solve challenges to achieve outstanding outcomes

Preferred:

  • Nationally recognized certifications in Personal Training, Group Exercise, or related areas (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM).
  • Experience with YMCA programs and an understanding of its mission and values.
  • Familiarity with wellness program software and data management tools.
