Do you like to swim and love working with kids and families? Join the Skagit Valley Family YMCA as a Swim Lesson Instructor and help swimmers of all ages build confidence, skills, and a love for the water.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages and abilities in group and private settings
  • Teach swim lessons using the YMCA curriculum
  • Keep swimmers safe and engaged while building positive relationships
  • Communicate with families about student progress and goals
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold program standards
  • Be an enthusiastic, water-safe role model!

Qualifications & Benefits

  • Provides swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages and abilities in group and private setting
  • Minimum age 16
  • Confident in the water
  • Willingness to obtain CPR/AED, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications that the YMCA will provide
  • Willing to obtain YMCA Swim Instructor certification that the YMCA will provide
  • Positive energy, reliability, and a commitment to youth development
  • Additional bilingual premium pay of $0.50 per hour for those who are fluent bilingual Spanish, Triqui, Mixtec, Russian, and Ukrainian speakers. The ability to write or translate written materials is not required to receive the premium.

  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification (or willingness to obtain—we’ll help!).
  • Up to 25 hours/week including evenings & weekends.
  • Warm pool temps (80–90°F) and a fun, fast-paced environment.
  • Be ready to stay alert, stay active, and respond to emergencies.

  • 8 paid federal holidays a year (must be full-time benefited employees to be eligible).
  • Paid Sick & Vacation Days (accrual begins from day 1, eligible to use after 90 days).
