POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for an experienced Yoga fitness instructor who knows they have the power to change lives for the better! Working with people of all ages, you will lead fitness classes to motivate members to move their bodies and achieve their fitness goals. As an instructor, you are passionate about health and fitness and love to empower people to achieve their goals. You are energetic self-motivated, and a natural teacher, dedicated to helping others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and teach scheduled classes and update regularly to incorporate current health and wellness, seasonal topics, or themes being promoted by the YMCA.
  • Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect and the YMCA.
  • Provide ideas and suggestions for class offerings.
  • Conduct fun, safe, and educational classes. Instruct members on proper fitness forms/techniques/safety.
  • Organize and put away equipment, report damaged equipment, and pull damaged items as appropriate.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the fitness industry and YMCA trends to provide effective information and training to members.
  • Keep accurate class attendance records.
  • Promote and communicate information for activities and events.
  • Encourage participation in other activities and events.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations.
  • Be able to respond and follow all YMCA policies and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The ability to conduct classes and activities relating to fitness. Must be able to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and can occasionally reach high volumes.
  • Aerobic exercise programs should meet the following components; warm-up, cardiovascular conditioning, cool down, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility
  • Frequency of class can range from 2 to 5 times a week

Qualifications & Benefits

YOU'VE GOT THIS, IF YOU ARE:

  • A nationally accredited Yoga Instructor certification with a minimum of 200-hour yoga instructor certification and 6 months teaching experience
  • National Certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM, ASFA, ISSA) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundation of Group Exercise Certification or equivalent
  • Certifications for CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogen Training, or willingness to obtain before the start date.
  • Abuse Prevention and Mandatory Reporting training required within 90 days of hire
  • Bilingual skills preferred (with a $0.50 increase in hourly rate!)
  • Possess excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Must have excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Preferred 1-year minimum of customer service
