Position Summary

The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty librarian position at the Whidbey Island Campus. The librarian will collaboratively lead information literacy (IL) and AI literacy integration with primary responsibilities in instruction, reference services, and student success support. The successful candidate will teach information literacy across multiple modalities, collaboratively lead innovative AI literacy initiatives, and partner with faculty to integrate critical thinking and emerging technology into the curriculum. This position works with a team of faculty librarians and the dean to prioritize tasks and organize workflow.

The position will be based at Skagit Valley College’s Whidbey Island Campus but may be called upon to occasionally work at the Mount Vernon campus. In addition to its primary duties and under the supervision of the dean, the librarian works closely with the library circulation supervisor and student workers to maintain library spaces and meet needs at the Whidbey campus library.

The position reports directly to the Dean of Libraries, eLearning, and Learning Resources. This position is expected to begin in fall term, September 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

Information Literacy & AI Integration

  • Collaborative with faculty librarians and other campus partners to integrate generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and academic integrity into information literacy initiatives;
  • Develop innovative approaches to merge AI literacy with traditional information literacy frameworks;
  • Partner with other campus partners in addressing AI-related questions and issues in information literacy contexts.
Teaching & Instruction
  • Teach information literacy in various modalities in collaboration with discipline faculty and courses across the college;
  • Provide course-integrated information literacy instruction tied to student learning outcomes, incorporating AI and emerging technologies;
  • Teach credit-bearing library research courses in learning community partnerships;
  • Assess student learning outcomes based on the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy;
  • Partner with faculty librarians on curriculum development, instructional assessment, and program review.
Reference & Research Support
  • Provide comprehensive research assistance and individual instruction through multiple channels: in-person, online, chat, email, phone;
  • Create positive learning environments that enhance student success and retention.
Collection Development
  • Collaborate with faculty and faculty librarians in selecting print and electronic materials across curriculum areas following collection development policies;
  • Work with faculty librarians in maintaining library collections through strategic ordering and weeding;
  • Maintain the WIC library collection, following guidelines for the collection development policy;
  • Stay current with electronic information resources and their pedagogical applications.
Collaboration & Outreach
  • Partner with with faculty to develop online instruction materials and integrate information literacy across the curriculum;
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders on AI and academic integrity projects;
  • Represent library services at governance meetings, public events, and campus initiatives;
  • Support campus efforts to improve equity, retention, and student achievement;
  • Develop and strengthen campus and community partnerships through strategic outreach.
Professional Development & Governance
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning in information literacy, AI technologies, and evidence-based pedagogies;
  • Participate in department, division, and college-wide governance activities;
  • Attend required meetings and contribute to shared governance processes;
  • Maintain professional relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and/or understanding of:
  • Library discovery systems, such as Ex Libris Alma/Primo;
  • Cultural competency;
  • Knowledge of current trends in information literacy instruction.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience providing reference services in an academic environment;
  • Experience designing and delivering instruction;
  • Experience with collection maintenance and development;
  • Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Library and Information Science or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching and assessing information literacy in academic settings;
  • Knowledge of generative AI tools and their integration with information literacy instruction;
  • Experience providing reference services across multiple platforms and modalities;
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and emerging technologies;
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and multilingual learners;
  • Background in academic integrity and critical thinking instruction;
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty on curriculum integration projects.

Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure, About SVC

Salary and Benefits:

  • Initial base annual salary placement for 2025-2026 ranges from $75,003 to $100,004 for a standard 172-day contract. The College has a negotiated faculty wage scale in which placement on the salary structure is in accordance with the SVC Federation of Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • A standard 172-day contract is written annually for the period of September to June. Late contracts will be prorated on the basis of work days remaining in the contract year.
  • This position is exempt from the overtime pay requirements of The Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • This is a union-represented position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The College has a negotiated faculty wage scale in which placement on the salary structure is in accordance with the SVC Federation of Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Salary, retirement, medical, and insurance benefits are provided in accordance with state regulations and may be subject to change in accordance with legislative mandates and collective bargaining agreements.
