Position: Cold Weather Shelter Monitor (CWS)(Seasonal: Late Oct for training thru March)Program: Skagit First Step CenterReports To: Shelter Manager & Shelter Asst ManagerJob OverviewThe cold weather shelter is a specialized seasonal overnight shelter during the winter months. This program runs from late November and typically ends in late March. The CWS shelter monitor works to help these temporary guests during these months.Responsibilities and DutiesMorning shift:- Complete a wake-up call at 7am. (Lights on)- Help with the coffee station (keep coffee going) during breakfast.- Supervise times for guests using showers; no more than 15-20 minutes are allowed. 6:30A-8:30A (only showers #3 & #4)- Make sure that everyone is folding up blankets and place them on the cots.- Ensure guests are taking ALL personal belongings when getting on the bus.- Help with sweeping/mopping of the day center after everyone leaves.- Clean/stock the Day Center bathroom.- Sanitize regularly throughout the shift.- De-escalating situations that arise with guests.Mid-Day Shift:- Picking up bedding from the night before, if guests are not returning.- Hand out shower items as needed.- Supervise times for guests using showers; no more than 15-20 minutes are allowed. 6pm-9:30pm (only showers #3 & #4)- Help with the coffee station (keep coffee going) during midday.- Help the Skagit First Step Center staff with laundry.- Clean/stock the Day Center bathroom.- Sanitize regularly throughout the shift.- Supervise large CWS groups out in the smoking area.- Quiet time is at 10pm (lights off)- De-escalating situations that arise with guests.- Put out cots and bedding as needed.Overnight Shift:- Monitors will make sure that no one is leaving the Day Center, other than for the use of the restrooms and or smoking area. No CWS guests are allowed in the cabin areas.- Complete the lights out protocol at 10pm. (Lights out)- Supervise large CWS groups out in the smoking area.- Help the Skagit First Step Center staff with laundry.- De-escalating situations that arise with guests.- Clean/stock the Day Center bathroom.- Sanitize regularly throughout the shift.- Set up coffee station in preparation for breakfast.Qualifications:Able and willing to work with a diverse community. Provide both empathy and compassion when working with guests who may be struggling with addiction/mental health. Expected to maintain a comprehensive written record of facts, events, and times they occur during the shift.- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing- Must be able to prepare written reports but only when needed.- Ensure the safety and security of program operations- The ability to communicate in Spanish, both orally and in writing, is desired but not required.Physical Requirements:The physical requirements described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job.
