RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
This position is responsible for providing the leadership and administration for all aspects of the company’s safety management.
• Develop and maintain safety, health and transportation programs. Ensure training programs and practices comply with federal, state & local laws & regulations.
• Prioritize and promote a positive and effective safety culture.
• Guide others to provide technical advice, coaching and mentoring on safety initiatives, changes and committees.
• Coordinate training in various areas, including but not limited to safety laws & regulations, hazard assessment, HAZCOM, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fire prevention, emergency response, housekeeping, use of safety equipment and other industry-specific safety practices.
• Lead the investigation of occupational near-misses, injuries, property damage or other incidents. Inspect, assess and/or monitor corrective actions and compliance with standards.
• Administer and manage workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work efforts.
• Monitor the company’s FMCSA safety record. Inspect activity and driver eligibility/performance issues.
• Maintain commercial driver qualification (DQ) and vehicle registration files.
• Inspect and audit records, facilities, machinery and equipment to ensure regulatory compliance and other safety practices.
• Order the suspension of activities that may pose threats to health, safety and property.
• Ensure personnel conduct routine facility inspections, assessments and reporting for building interiors, finishes, and grounds.
• Positively communicate with coworkers, the public, government and other external entities.
• Participate in educational opportunities for professional development.
• Exhibit an ability to receive feedback, adapt to new processes and continuously develop skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to collaborate, communicate well and effectively relay information with an emphasis on developing positive professional relationships.
• Practice punctual and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, occupational safety & health, safety engineering, safety management, business or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Three plus years’ experience managing safety or transportation programs.
• Physical ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 30 pounds.
• Demonstrate strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, investigative & analytical skills
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Possess a valid driver license and maintain a safe driving record.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
• Experience with fleet or other transportation operations subject to DOT regulations.
• Knowledge of agricultural or propane/refined fuel safety practices.
• Successful completion as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or certifications in OSHA Training Courses 501 or 511.
SCHEDULE
This is a full time, in person, salaried position, typically Monday through Friday. Company-paid education and training may require occasional day and/or overnight travel. Additional hours may be required during times of unexpected or emergency situations or events.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Annual base salary: $70,000 – $105,000. After meeting eligibility requirements, benefits include:
