The company is seeking an individual with a willingness to learn and work in a paid internship at one of our agronomy centers!
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Skagit Farmers Supply, a local cooperative based in Burlington, WA, serves farmers, families and the communities of Skagit, Island, San Juan, Snohomish, Whatcom, and King Counties in northwest Washington State with three full-service agronomy centers in Burlington, Mount Vernon & Lynden, providing custom dry and liquid fertilizer blends, plant protection products, custom application and services, and the experience and expertise to advance the success of our customers.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Current plant protection product experience will be gained with 20+ crops including potatoes, corn, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, broccoli, seed crops, cucumbers, ornamentals, grains, and forages.
Learning opportunities may include delivering products, soil sampling, tissue sampling, weed scouting, formulating dry and liquid fertilizer blends, mapping customer fields, managing application records, assisting with custom planting and fertilizer application, and assisting with customer events.
The company may provide assistance to obtain industry standard licenses such as Washington State Pesticide Applicator License, including laws and safety, ag weeds, and ag insects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
• Conduct soil samples and interpret results
• Work with agronomists to identify crop pests, undesirable vegetation and diseases affecting the health of specific crops
• Count inventory and update records as necessary
• Assist with mixing and blending fertilizer
• Load vehicles and transport products to customer delivery points
• Always maintain a safe and clean work environment
• Safely operate a forklift
• Exhibit an ability to get along with others
• Performing maintenance on equipment (delivery truck, forklift, etc.) and facilities
• Work with customers and staff in a courteous and professional manner
• Perform other duties as assigned
I N T E R N S H I P R E Q U I R EME N T S
• Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in agriculture. Preferred majors include crop science, soil science, horticulture, agribusiness, agricultural education, agricultural economics (or other agricultural discipline), or animal science
• Demonstrate a passion for agriculture and farming
• Must possess a valid driver license with safe/insurable driving record
• Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to lift, carry and load 60 pounds
C OMP E N S A T I O N & S C H E D U L E
$18.00 – $20.00. Internships are available beginning in the spring and end in August. This is a 40+ hours per week internship, typically Monday – Friday. Qualified applicants must be available to work evenings and/or weekends as occasionally needed.
