Summary
Supports, designs, implements, installs, troubleshoots, builds, maintains and operates Skagit County's computer network operating systems and the hardware platforms in locations throughout the county.
This vacancy is for a Systems Administrator I only.
Salary upon hire is step 1 through 3 ($ 31.81/hr. - $34.07/hr.) dependent upon qualifications.
Progressive increases are based on years of service with Skagit County, up to 10 steps (top step $41.91/hr.). The Systems Administrator I is range 14 of the General (Non-Union) salary schedule.Essential Functions

Works with County departments and Information Services staff to install, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft operating systems and maintain Skagit County standard applications.
Provides administration support for Skagit County's file servers operating with Skagit County's standard operating system.
Provides patch management and application installation of Skagit County workstations using Microsoft's System Center software.
Assists in the management of Active Directory and group policies for Skagit County accounts, automates system procedures using computer scripts, research computer related issues, and support for other Information Services functions as required.
Troubleshoots, installs, builds, maintains, and operates Skagit County's standard operating systems and hardware platforms in locations throughout the County.
Experience with Fluke Network troubleshooting equipment and Cisco networking equipment.
Communicates on the status of projects or support issues with departments and outside agencies.
Recommends and selects hardware and software required for Skagit County's private network.
Determines problem areas, assess needs, provides technical assistance, and assures that systems run correctly.
Writes operating procedures and system documentation. Operating procedures are written so that an untrained person can follow them with success.
Assists in planning and organizing work and assigns and checks work of and/or assists and instructs others.
Assists departments with automation of many of their day-to-day tasks.
Administers Microsoft Windows based application deployment to workstations through automated tools provided by Microsoft.
Replacement and Surplus of old equipment.
SUPERVISORY:
Systems Administrator II, III, and Sr. positions may direct work for part-time/on-call or contractor positions.
Sr. Systems Administrator serves as lead. As a lead this position is responsible for managing the daily work of employees but does not have authority for evaluation, discipline, hiring and firing of those employees.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical path to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- A two-year technical degree with an emphasis in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field preferred.
- A two year technical degree and an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted which provides the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Certification as a Microsoft Certified Professional is desired.
System Administrator I
- This is the entry level for the series. Requires a combination of practical experience and education sufficient to demonstrate necessary knowledge and ability to perform essential functions.
System Administrator II
- At least three years of professional experience is required.
System Administrator III
- At least seven years of professional experience is required, including strong troubleshooting skills, in-depth understanding of operating systems and network operation, and demonstrated the ability to manage complex projects.
Sr. Systems Administrator
At least ten years of professional experience is required, including strong troubleshooting skills, in-depth understanding of operating systems and network operation, demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, and leadership experience necessary to oversee work and provide direction and guidance.
Requires Knowledge Of:
- Installation and troubleshooting of software on Microsoft Windows platforms
- Using system logs to troubleshoot issues
- Microsoft Office 365
- Network Printer installation, troubleshooting and support
- In-depth understanding of Microsoft operating systems,
- Active Directory
Requires the Ability to:
- Troubleshoot and resolve a wide variety of technical issues
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Be self-motivated and directed with attention to detail in performance of County objectives
- Work as a key team member, establish and maintain good rapport with other employees and departments in order to achieve a common goal
- Willingness to continue training as technology changes
- Strong customer service skills
Licenses and/or Certifications:
A valid Washington State driver's license.
CompTIA A+ Certification highly desired.
CompTIA Network+ Certification highly desired.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment however routine travel is required.
Hazards:
Those present in a normal office environment also involves some lifting, high degrees of stress, technological equipment failure resulting in possible electrical shock, or noxious fumes and travel both locally and out of state between job functions.
