Overview: The Marine Outboard Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of outboard marine engines and related propulsion, electrical, fuel, and mechanical systems. Key Responsibilities: · Perform routine maintenance on outboard engines (oil/filter, gearcase oil, water-pump, spark plugs, fuel system, timing/ignition). · Diagnose engine problems/malfunctions (fuel, ignition/electrical, overheating/cooling, gearcase, prop/shaft, exhaust, tilt/trim). · Perform repairs: powerheads, gearcases/lower units, water-pumps, seals, gaskets, fuel/exhaust systems, steering/tilt/trim units; wiring and electrical as needed. · Maintain records of maintenance, repairs, parts, hours, and service history. · Work safely in marine environments, follow safety and environmental protocols. · Other duties as assigned. Required Skills: · 2–5 years’ experience on outboard motors including maintenance, repair, rebuild, and diagnostics. · Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of marine-specific systems. · Valid driver’s license and insurance. Preferred Skills: · Certification from marine/diesel manufacturer or marine-mechanic program. · Experience across outboard brands/models/power ranges; familiarity with 2-stroke/4-stroke, EFI/carbureted systems, gear-case rebuilds. · Willingness to assist with broader boat maintenance (hydraulic, steering/trim, electrical wiring/troubleshooting, plumbing, winterization). Physical Requirements: · Lift up to 50 lbs; confined-space and onboard work; climb stairs/ladders; stand/walk/sit for extended periods; all-weather conditions. Working Hours & Compensation: · Full-time; Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm. · Compensation based on experience and skill. · Benefits: Medical (PPO or HSA), Dental, Vision, Life, 401(k), Sick, PTO. Salary Description: $52,000 - $90,000 DOE.
