Maintenance Technician II (Mechanical / Mechanic Apprentice Focus)

The Port of Skagit is seeking a mechanically inclined Maintenance Technician II to join our facilities and maintenance team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys diagnosing mechanical issues, working with equipment, and performing hands-on repairs that keep operations running smoothly. We are especially interested in candidates with strong mechanical aptitude or mechanic-apprentice experience, including troubleshooting equipment, performing small engine repairs, and working with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

What You’ll Do
As a Maintenance Technician II, you will perform a wide range of maintenance and repair work on Port facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. Responsibilities may include diagnosing equipment issues, performing mechanical repairs, maintaining small engines and equipment, and assisting with preventative maintenance to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently.
Work may involve troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment, assisting with building and grounds maintenance, and supporting facility improvements across Port properties including the airport, marina, and business parks. You will also track work performed in the Port’s maintenance system and collaborate with other maintenance staff on complex repairs and projects.
What We're Looking For
Desired Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose issues and identify root causes
- Experience performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance
- Familiarity with hand tools and equipment used in mechanical work
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical theory
- Experience with small engine repairs or mechanical equipment maintenance
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and implement timely repairs to minimize downtime
Experience
- Two (2) years of experience as a Mechanic or Mechanic-Apprentice preferred
- AA Degree in Automotive or Diesel Mechanics preferred
- Experience in facilities maintenance or equipment maintenance is helpful
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Washington State driver’s license (must be insurable)
Work Environment
This position works both
indoors and outdoors across Port properties including aviation, marine, and industrial facilities. Work may occur in various weather conditions and may require standing, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Pay & Benefits
Wage Range: $26.59 – $39.88 per hour
