Requisition Summary
The Thermal Management Group (TMG) at PACCAR Technical Center has two areas of focus. First, validation testing and development of HVAC and powertrain cooling system using the TMG testing chambers. Second, operates between the Thermal Management Group and the Climatic Chassis Dynamometer (CCD) used for onboard diagnostics (OBD) testing and development, engine and aftertreatment performance, greenhouse gas regulatory testing, and battery electric vehicle performance evaluation. This group’s manager will guide the teams along the path of providing these services and will be required to develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and management at PACCAR divisions.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Responsible for supervision, coordination, and development of project engineers and technicians conducting testing in both the cold chamber and cooling cell.
- Oversee supervision and operation of the CCD as it supports engine development needs and vehicle validation activities.
- Provide expertise to plan and conduct performance testing of truck cooling and exhaust systems to engine manufacturer installation requirements.
- Develop and maintain department budget and review with management.
- Review project requests and assemble resources for testing.
- Collect and analyze test operation metrics and identify opportunities for efficiency and effectivity improvements.
- Assess operational needs, including processes, staffing, and equipment, and provide input to PTC management in the form of expense and capital budgets.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relations with other departments and divisions.
- Monitor major truck and engine program timelines and create strategies to manage resource constraints and provide feedback to program managers on risks and issues.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years work experience performing cooling and HVAC systems testing.
- Knowledge of diesel engine and exhaust aftertreatment system operations related to engine cooling, HVAC system performance, and emission testing.
- Familiar with engine installation requirements and execution of related performance testing.
- Desire to work with TMG staff, fostering teamwork and employee development
- Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
- Self-directed with excellent analysis skills, technical judgment, and attention to detail
Education
- BS in engineering with related test experience required.
- MS in engineering with engine, after treatment or cooling system experience preferred.
