Requisition Summary

The Metrology and Instrumentation Lab Supervisor will lead a team of technicians responsible for instrumentation of test properties, data collection and processing, strain gauge projects, and instrument calibration activities. This position is responsible for supervising the group workload, continuous improvement of work processes, and the team members’ individual development and performance management. The supervisor will promote a positive, collaborative team environment and manage group resources to achieve department objectives.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of technical specialists responsible for test instrumentation, data acquisition, strain gauge projects, and instrument calibration activities

  • Oversee the team’s workload and assignment distribution, resolve resource conflicts

  • Support the team members’ individual development plans, including training and continued learning

  • Work with team members to develop and achieve their performance goals; work with the Department Manager to complete performance reviews and feedback

  • Team building and staff retention; interviewing, hiring and onboarding new staff as needed

  • Foster a team environment - coach personnel to work together to resolve issues and achieve team objectives, share knowledge and abilities

  • Work with the Department Manager to help manage department budgets for Metrology and the Instrumentation Lab

  • Perform hands-on support to the team as needed to assist with priority instrumentation and data collection activities

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relations with other departments and customers

 

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience

  • Hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of common test instruments, data acquisition systems, and knowledge of related processes

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively

  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting priorities and project demands

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Self-directed, with strong technical judgment and business acumen

  • Knowledge of automotive fundamentals and systems preferred

 

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in relevant engineering discipline preferred, or Associate in Technical Arts degree in Instrumentation Technology (or equivalent) with extensive, relevant work experience

The salary range for the Metrology and Instrumentation Lab Supervisor is $80,800 - $126,600 annually. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
