We are looking for people that want to radically improve vehicle transportation to achieve lower carbon emissions. This position will be critical to PACCAR’s success as we build our capabilities in battery technologies for medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks.
Working at the PACCAR Technical Center you will be developing the next generation of battery technologies nestled between the snow-covered peaks of the north cascades and the Puget Sound. You’ll have easy access to recreational opportunities including, some of the best hiking, skiing, and snowboarding in the country, you also have access to boating, fishing, and sailing in the area.
This isn't a boring desk job! While the office environment here is great - many of our teams spend their days developing advanced battery technologies, characterizing battery cell performances, developing BMS algorithms, evaluating software, calibration, and hardware performance in our state-of-the-art facilities, well-equipped laboratories, or in trucks on our test tracks and local roads.
We also work very closely with our European counterparts, strategic academic and research partners in the U.S., and occasionally travel there for project work.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Oversee and benchmark battery technologies for commercial vehicle electrification
- Provide technical advice to PACCAR leadership team about battery cell technologies for making strategic decisions
- Develop battery cell technical specifications for commercial truck applications
- Support battery pack and battery system development programs
- Contribute to the development of PACCAR battery technology roadmap
- Conduct battery cell research work to support advanced BMS algorithm development
- Interface with Universities, National Labs and other research partners in developing advanced battery technologies for commercial truck application
- Liaise with purchasing to evaluate, select, and manage battery cell suppliers.
- Communicate results and recommendations to team and stakeholders on a regular basis and facilitate technology transfer to relevant PACCAR divisions.
Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of cell chemistries and it’s major components (cathode, anode, electrolyte, separator, conductors, binders, etc.)
- Demonstrated work experience in developing major battery materials and battery cells
- Hands-on experience in using advanced analytical equipment (such as XRD, TGA-DSC, SEM-EDX, XPS, Raman, PSD, EIS, etc.) and battery cell testers
- Experience in developing battery cell or battery material technical specifications
- Demonstrated resourcefulness, analytical capability, and communication skills
- Experience in supplier management with strong leadership skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter with a high level of initiative and innovation
Education
PhD degree in electrochemistry, chemistry, or material sciences required, a postdoctoral research experience preferred
