Position Summary
The Computer Support Specialist is responsible for providing on-site and/or remote support for computer systems and peripherals in a K-12 environment. Supports troubleshooting and repair of operating systems, applications, and hardware. This position will require occasional travel to programs and school districts within the Northwest Educational Service District (NWESD) 189 service area which includes Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island and San Juan counties. The primary workstation will be the NWESD district office in Anacortes.
Essential Functions:
- Provides on-site and remote computer support for K-12 schools using Windows and Chrome platforms.
- Demonstrates an awareness and technical aptitude for the instructional uses of computing systems.
- Performs basic troubleshooting and/or repair of computer and associated peripheral hardware.
- Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots productivity, curriculum, and other software applications.
- Responds to service requests in a timely manner.
- Develops procedures and documentation for use with the various systems and instructs system users.
- Understands client needs and communicates complex technical concepts to end users in layman terms.
- Prepares clear, informative, and timely written reports on activities as well as maintains detailed logs and documentation related to service requests and system changes.
- Participates as a team member fulfilling the overall technology services support mission and future planning for upgrades and services.
- Interacts with outside hardware and software vendors.
- Keeps abreast of changes in technology and can recommend and/or apply those changes in a timely manner.
- Configures Windows and Google Chrome computers for use on the network.
- Provides basic network connectivity troubleshooting in coordination with escalation support personnel and resources to resolve problems in a timely manner.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of Windows and Google Chrome operating systems.
- Knowledge of networks, internet applications, and basic operating concepts of various other computer operating environments including host-based interactive systems and Linux.
- Knowledge of installation, configuration, troubleshooting and operation concepts of common computer office productivity applications.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used in developing scripting and batch files related to configuration of various computer applications.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex problems in a computing systems environment in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ability to configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot various Windows and Chrome computers and associated peripherals.
- Ability to use various software and hand tools.
- Ability to perform routine operating system and applications scripting tasks.
- Ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and coordinate work requests.
- Ability to work well with others to accomplish system objectives and to operate within organizational policies and decision-making structures. Ability to function as an effective team member of the Technology Services Department.
- Ability to successfully demonstrate human relation skills and customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written format. Prepare accurate, clear and concise reports, logs and related documentation of activities performed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school district staff, vendors and the public.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent, a minimum of a three years’ experience in computer support which demonstrates knowledge of troubleshooting and repair in a computing environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted which provides the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. A+, Microsoft, Google, or other computer certifications are desirable.
WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required. Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required.

Salary Range
