BENEFIT INFORMATION

Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (260-day employees only), and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

Selection for interview is based on evaluation of complete application file. Employment offer is based on employee evaluations, discipline history and attendance records, training and experience, references, and interview results. Hourly rate placement contingent upon verification of related WA public school experience.

This position is included in the classified staff non-supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply to this position.

Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant.

Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.

Background

Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA) is a regional skills center serving high school juniors and seniors from multiple consortium districts throughout Northwest Washington. NCTA provides rigorous career-connected learning opportunities designed to prepare students for postsecondary education, apprenticeships, industry credentials and high-demand careers. As enrollment and program complexity continue to grow, NCTA has experienced an increasing need for coordinated student support systems that address barriers to access, engagement, attendance and successful completion. Students enrolled in NCTA programs often require varying levels of support related to multilingual learning needs, Section 504 accommodations, special education coordination, executive functioning, social-emotional needs, attendance interventions and transition planning.

In addition, many students and families require assistance navigating systems between NCTA and their sending high schools, including communication related to transportation, accommodations, academic progress and student success planning. The Student Support & Outreach Coordinator position will strengthen NCTA’s ability to proactively support students, improve communication with families and partner districts, increase equitable access to programs, enhance student persistence and completion outcomes.

Position Purpose

The Student Support & Outreach Coordinator will provide proactive student-centered support services across NCTA programs. This position will collaborate with instructors, counselors, sending districts, families and community partners to support student success, improve communication systems, reduce barriers to participation and completion. This position is not intended to replace district special education services or certificated case management responsibilities, but rather to coordinate supports, facilitate communication, monitor student progress, assist staff in monitoring accommodations and interventions that support student learning and engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with high school-aged students in educational, community-based, or youth support settings.
  • Knowledge of multilingual learner supports, Section 504 accommodations, special education systems, MTSS frameworks/or student intervention practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with students, families and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple schools, districts partner organizations.
  • Experience with culturally responsive practices and supporting diverse student populations.
  • A driver’s license, ability to obtain and maintain a Type 2 (school-based) enforcement
  • Ability to start work day at the multiple NCTA campuses.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working within Career & Technical Education (CTE) or skills center environments.
  • Experience supporting multilingual learners and students with diverse learning needs.
  • Experience with attendance intervention, re-engagement work, or family outreach.
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
  • Experience using student information systems and data tracking tools.
  • Experience facilitating collaboration between schools, families, and community agencies.
  • Bilingual communicator with proficiency in Spanish and English

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support student onboarding and transition into NCTA programs, especially for students with identified learning, language, behavioral, attendance or accommodation needs.
  • Review student support documentation including 504 plans, accommodation plans, multilingual learner supports other educational records as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with sending school counselors, case managers, multilingual learner staff families to coordinate student supports.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement academic progress for identified students and assist in implementing intervention strategies.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and communication with students and families related to attendance concerns, barriers to participation and student success planning.
  • Support equitable access and recruitment efforts for historically underserved student populations.
  • Assist with family engagement, orientation events, student recruitment events and community outreach activities.
  • Maintain documentation related to student interventions, communication logs and support plans.
  • Help connect students and families with community resources and support services when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with administration on systems improvement related to student access, inclusion and persistence.
  • Support student transition planning related to postsecondary education, training, employment workforce readiness.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of NCTA student success initiatives.
