Position Summary

Mount Vernon High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Math Support Specialist to provide supplemental math intervention services for students who are experiencing difficulty meeting course expectations in mathematics classes required for graduation credits. This certificated assignment is designed to support student progress toward course completion and graduation through targeted, data-informed instructional support.

The Math Support Specialist will deliver supplemental instruction aligned with district curriculum and instructional standards, collaborating with classroom teachers and support staff to address identified learning gaps and improve student outcomes.

Responsibilities

Supplemental Instruction & Intervention

  • Provide targeted, supplemental mathematics instruction to identified students through individual and small-group intervention.
  • Support students in the following content areas, as assigned: Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry
  • Reinforce classroom instruction through re-teaching, guided practice, and skill remediation
  • Curriculum Alignment & Collaboration with math department
  • Collaborate with math department team, counselors, and administrators to align intervention services with district-adopted curriculum and instructional goals
  • Provide in-class or lab-based instructional support, as assigned, to reinforce learning and promote student engagement
  • Support development of study skills, organizational strategies, note-taking, and test-taking skills to improve overall academic performance in mathematics
  • Assist students with homework completion, test preparation, and credit recovery support as applicable
  • Establish and maintain a positive, supportive, and structured learning environment
  • Build positive relationships with students that promote confidence, perseverance, and academic growth
  • Communicate student progress with teachers, counselors, and families in accordance with district expectations

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

  • Use formative and diagnostic assessment data to identify learning gaps and inform instructional planning
  • Monitor and document student progress toward identified goals
  • Adjust instructional strategies based on data and teacher feedback
  • Provide LAP reporting duties which include tracking students served, Using STAR or other assessment to track beginning score and ending score for data tracking.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate appropriate to assignment
  • Endorsement in Mathematics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing math intervention or tutoring at the secondary level
  • Experience working with students requiring academic or credit-recovery support
