Supervision given: Assist with Operations of yard - Manpower, Materials and Equipment; Oversees all scheduling for bottom paint, yard operations, and yard storage. Provides general oversight for Dry Boat operations as needed, and in coordination with Dry Boat Foreman. Helps coordinate facility maintenance and schedule maintenance person.

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to be a front-line/salesperson point of contact for customers; oversee haul out and yard operations; oversee paint shop and bottom paint work. This involves: 1) communicating effectively with customers on their arrival to the yard, and during their stay, to insure they are kept informed of their project status; 2) communicating with Project Manager, Mechanical Service Manager and department personnel to insure work is being completed, manpower is being scheduled efficiently, and necessary parts and materials for assigned jobs are acquired; 3) tracking assigned projects to insure their progress, quality and on-time completion; 4) analysis of completed projects to determine profitability/ changes for next time.

This position also involves the day to day operations of work order writing, creating estimates, accepting payments, getting deposits, and diplomatically handling customer concerns/complaints.

Successful candidate must have, or be able to develop, skills to assume management of all aspects of yard operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Communicate effectively with the customers by phone and in written correspondence regarding job progress and change orders; this should be done at least once a week, more if prudent.
  2. Provide oversight and supervision for assigned jobs, and work closely with Project Manger and Mechanical Department Service Manager to insure efficient scheduling of resources (personnel, facilities, tools, etc.).
  3. Schedule haul-outs, and oversee scheduling of all yard operations, Do-it-Yourself (DIY) customer projects, and incoming and outgoing Yard Storage customers using scheduling software and other designated tools (yard map in back office; Yard Storage spreadsheet, etc.).
  4. Assist with pricing and project estimates, change orders, and securing deposits in all departments, but primarily in the Paint Shop department
  5. Provide performance reviews and evaluations for Paint Shop, Bottom Paint and Dry Boat personnel. Make recommendations for, and carry out hiring and terminations for department.
  6. Work with involved parties to resolve personnel issues and customers complaints in a diplomatic and professional manner, as they pertain to assigned areas of oversight, and as otherwise may be needed.
  7. Maintain log of all important phone calls with customers and vendors, and record all pertinent information.
  8. Maintain a daily “to-do” list based on communication log and work orders.
  9. Inspect work-in-progress of assigned jobs to insure quality
  10. Communicate with vendors and agencies as necessary
  11. Become proficient in use of point of sale software
  12. Insure accurate and complete invoicing in accordance with accounting policies.
  13. Provide customer orientation of Environmental Best Management Practices (BMP’s).
  14. Help insure materials required for assigned work order jobs are available
  15. Maintains strict adherence to all established safety procedures, practices and standards
  16. Assist in budget preparation for boat repair department
  17. Responsible for departmental profitability: have or develop ability to analyze and understand department P&L reports, labor efficiency reports, etc.
  18. Responsible for the accuracy and authorization of bottom paint and haul out personnel time keeping (note that routine clocking in and out is handled by each individual tech)
  19. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Strong background in the marine industry, with a diverse knowledge of marine systems, hardware and processes.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Five (5) years in a directly related field of work in a management position.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: • Able to respond diplomatically and rapidly to customer demands. • Able to communicate and work effectively and professionally with diverse personalities in a sometimes fast paced environment. • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. • Knowledge of small tools.
• General understanding of boat systems and their function/operation

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED: Thorough knowledge of boats and repair.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 20/20 eye sight or correctable Able to lift or move 50 Lbs. Able to stand for long periods of time

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. During spring and summer the work environment may be fast paced and stressful.
