Basic Function

Responsible for providing Control & Automation engineering support to projects and operations, including maintenance, inspection, and turnaround.  Proactively interacting with other disciplines, teams, subfunctions and contractors to systematically resolve problems and applying basic engineering judgement to deliver integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, operating efficiency, defect elimination and standardization.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA) 

  • Uses common engineering concepts in a particular field to perform projects, and assignments for the engineering department with direct supervision and exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Estimates the cost and feasibility of a given project, supervises contractors and field activities and provides discipline specific engineering assistance, direction and development assistance to colleagues depending on assignment
  • Resolves a variety of complex problems, (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements), and solves technical problems related to projects, troubleshoots and updates report data for business unit(s) 
  • Design, implement, and maintain DCS systems (includes switches, routers, stations, controllers, I/O, and servers), including planning and implementing equipment upgrades to deal with obsolete equipment
  • Provide operations support for the refinery process control environment. This includes trouble shooting and maintenance of base level and advanced process control strategies, monitoring of key process indicators of control system health, maintenance of the alarm management system, graphics modifications and database support for the plant operating data historian


May be required to do some or all of the following:

  • Perform critical backup duties of an OT Team Lead & PCD OT Security Engineer
  • Upgrade, design, configure, maintain and monitor related equipment and performance
  • Review outside vendors proposals regarding purchase of new, or modernization of existing, processing equipment
  • Maintain Process Control Networks System’s Software and License List
  • Develop and implement advanced process control strategies using multivariable controller technology. Communicates lost profit opportunity due to APC applications not being utilized

Experience

A minimum of 3 years of progressive work experience in Process and/or DCS/Controls Engineering.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Instrumentation & Electrical Technician expertise (including PLC)
  • Industry experience
  • Supporting and configuring Honeywell TDC 3000 and Experion systems 
  • Maintaining Process Control Network (PCN) component systems including Process Control System (PCS)
  • Familiarity with ISA Safety Instrumented System requirements
  • Active Directory Administration

Education Level

 

Do you have a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Cybersecurity, Database Administration or related field?

Required Skills

Technical expert in area of specialty. Advanced ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes and apply knowledge analytically. Strong knowledge of Microsoft products and commonly used engineering concepts and experience with electrical modeling software. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, advanced reading and writing skills.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Thorough understanding of P&ID and standard electrical drawing symbology and presentation techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).  Familiarity with power system modeling software (preferably ETAP).  Understanding of power relay functionality, operation and programming.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required.  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors. 

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require: standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination.  Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.

Salary Range:  The salary range includes the minimum and maximum base salary values.  A candidate's offer can vary depending on differentiating factors, including but not limited to education, training, or experience.

This position has a salary minimum of $71,400.00 and maximum of $124,800.00.
