Position: Full-time/Part-time, 0.25-1.0 FTE, Overnight Shift, non-exempt
Compensation and Benefits: A Hospital Nocturnist ARNP or PA-C joining Family Care Network’s Inpatient Hospitalist Service (IPS) as an Associate Provider, will be offered a rate between $54.39 to 81.58 per hour based on experience. In addition to the salary described above, a Provider receives a $6 per wRVU production incentive and a $20 per hour night shift differential. Upon satisfactory completion of the Associate period, the Provider may become eligible for membership and receive approval to become a Member Provider at FCN.

Position Information: Hospital care for adult FCN patients at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center is supported by our own Inpatient Services (IPS) program. This hospital-based service is staffed by FCN physicians and Advance Practice Providers who work only in the hospital.

Job Summary
The Hospital Nocturnist ARNP or PA-C is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to hospitalized patients during night shifts. This role includes performing clinical assessments, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses, coordinating care, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes. This specific role is focused on providing care to patients overnight, with the primary focus being new admissions and cross coverage for FCN inpatients.
Essential Job Functions
- Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams.
- Develop and implement diagnostic and therapeutic plans, including medication management and ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests.
- Manage acute conditions, including medical emergencies, and determine the need for higher levels of care.
- Facilitate admissions, discharges, consults and transfers in collaboration with physicians and care teams.
- Perform routine rounds on assigned patients to assess progress, address concerns, and update treatment plans as needed.
- Ensure continuity of care by communicating findings and changes to the interdisciplinary team.
- Work closely with attending physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
- Serve as the primary on-site provider during night shifts, escalating cases to the on-call physician as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, data collection, and adherence to evidence-based protocols to enhance patient outcomes.
- Respond promptly to rapid response and code situations, providing advanced clinical support.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of hospital medicine, including acute care management and clinical decision-making.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to think critically and make autonomous clinical decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Proficient in the use of EMR systems and medical equipment relevant to hospitalist practice.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds.
- Intermediate computer skills - use of computer applications, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Comprehend and communicate information accurately and clearly (verbally and in writing, in person and via the phone) with patients, all levels of personnel, and other individuals and groups.
- Accurately perform detailed work, (i.e plan, multitask, organize and prioritize work).
- Work as part of a team that shares and leverages the strengths of its members.
- Discern and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited ARNP or PA program. Master’s degree in nursing (for ARNPs) or medical science (for PAs) preferred.
- Current and unrestricted licensure in Washington State as an ARNP or PA-C.
- National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., ANCC, AANP) or Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospitalist or acute care setting preferred.
- Experience managing complex medical conditions independently.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the provider is required to work long shifts while standing, walking, or moving frequently; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; requires dexterity to perform medical procedures with precision; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. The employee must be able to safely physically transfer patients and must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Immunization Requirements:
All employees at Family Care Network (FCN) are expected to meet and maintain required immunizations as a contingency of employment. The immunization requirements are as follows: Influenza (annually), Tdap (after the age of 19), MMR, Varicella or a verified history of chicken pox disease, Two-step TST or IGRA (within the last 12 months), COVID-19 vaccine completed series and any additional immunizations determined necessary for the protection of staff and patients. Hepatitis B is also required for employees in positions with a high risk of bloodborne pathogen exposure, which includes the following: Providers, RN’s, LPN’s, MA-C’s, PSR’s at all Urgent Care Locations, and all-laboratory staff. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended for all other employees. FCN will cover the cost of required immunizations for any FCN employee. All employee immunizations will be administered by FCN staff except for the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at a participating pharmacy or other healthcare location. Note: A medical or religious vaccine exemption/reasonable accommodation will be considered by submitting an FCN Exemption form for review and evaluation by the Chief Medical Officer.
