Title: Health Information Management (HIM) Tech
Location: Administrative Office – Electronic Medical Records
City: Bellingham, WA
Position: Part-time, Monday-Friday, 4 hours per day within the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm, non-exempt (hourly).
Compensation: The full wage scale is $16.51 - $23.13 per hour. Placement within the wage range is determined by a candidate’s relevant experience.
Job Summary: The Health Information Management (HIM) Tech is responsible for indexing scanned documents into the appropriate section of the electronic medical record. This includes ensuring that each scanned image is legible and that the scanned quality of the document is sufficient for medical record purposes. This may also include attaching scanned documents to specific existing encounters (appointments, patient visits, etc.) and/or orders in the electronic medical record.
Essential Job Functions:

Reviews work queues to retrieve scanned documents.

Perform visual quality review of each scanned document and send any non-scanned or illegible documents to the Scanner for re-scanning.

Sends/Commits indexed documents electronically to the electronic medical record.

Scans batch documents/records to the EMR.

Manually indexes non-barcoded documents, reviews and identifies image quality and indexing issues.

Maps observations to include colonoscopy, mammogram, Dexa Scan, A1C, diabetic eye exam and INR results.

Performs other related duties as necessary, which may include but not be limited to Sorter/Prepper/Scanner work, filing, answering phones, and other departmental support work.

Supports efficient and accurate indexing by updating the system to automate the receipt of new reports using the correct document type and summary line.

Coordinates with external Specialty Clinics to ensure specialty reports are faxed to DxLogic and to update the Specialty Clinics when we onboard new providers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to learn and use a variety of computer applications such as Windows based software, including MS Office, e-mail, etc., demonstrating proficiency in data entry and 10-key.

Ability to learn an electronic health record system and import applications.

Ability to use common office equipment such as a fax machine, copy machine and scanner.

Ability to compose professional email correspondence.

Ability to review and sort all types of medical record documents.
-
Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Ability to learn policies, procedures and to differentiate between medical record documents.

Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.

Medical office experience preferred.

Demonstrates effective organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Effective in solving problems, issues, and concerns in a professional manner.

Demonstrates ability to meet required timelines.

Our PTO and EIB benefits begin accruing from the first day of employment and employees are eligible to take paid time off after 60 days of employment. An employee accrues PTO at a rate based upon the number of months of service at FCN. A new full-time employee generally accrues 18 days per year. EIB accrues based upon the number of paid hours excluding overtime, with a full-time employee accruing a maximum of 48 hours per year. Benefit eligibility is determined based on the full or part-time status of the position. Employees who are ineligible for FCN’s PTO/EIB programs accrue Paid Sick Leave per Washington State law.
Our 401k retirement plan is designed to support you in preparing for retirement planning and include individualized financial planning guidance. Eligibility for the FCN Retirement Plan programs is determined based upon years of service and required payroll hours.

Qualifications
Education & Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
Immunization Requirements:
All employees at Family Care Network (FCN) are expected to meet and maintain required immunizations as a contingency of employment. The immunization requirements are as follows: Influenza (annually), Tdap (after the age of 19), MMR, Varicella or a verified history of chicken pox disease, Two-step TST or IGRA (within the last 12 months), COVID-19 vaccine completed series and any additional immunizations determined necessary for the protection of staff and patients. Hepatitis B is also required for employees in positions with a high risk of blood borne pathogen exposure, which includes the following: Providers, RN’s, LPN’s, MA-C’s, PSR’s at all Urgent Care Locations, and all-laboratory staff. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended for all other employees. FCN will cover the cost of required immunizations for any FCN employee. All employee immunizations will be administered by FCN staff except for the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at a participating pharmacy or other healthcare location. Note: A medical or religious vaccine exemption/reasonable accommodation will be considered by submitting a FCN Exemption form for review and evaluation by the Chief Medical Officer.
