JOB TITLE: Parks Maintenance Worker – Seasonal – 6 months

(April through October)

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the daily maintenance of various park buildings and park grounds as assigned. This position uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment such as shovels, rakes, axes, pruners, chain saws, weed eaters, backpack blowers, edgers, and some mowers, tractor, trucks, and trailers, and other equipment owned or rented by the City on a daily basis. This position works primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and terrain.

EXAMPLES OF FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, weeding flowerbeds, watering trees/plants, painting, mowing, operating various hand, power tools and equipment.

• Operate city vehicles, clean restrooms, mop floors, wash windows, prepare baseball/softball fields for play.

• Communicate with the public in a polite and professional manner.

• Set up, and work City Sponsored Special Events as needed.

• Responsible for completing Incident Report Forms immediately after a situation occurs and routes them to the Parks Supervisor.

• Other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

• A wide variety of power tools and equipment.

Skills in:

• Use of hand tools.

• Excellent customer service.

Ability to:

• Work outdoor in a variety of weather conditions.

• Work independently and complete the duties assigned in an effective and timely manner.

• Communicate verbally or in writing in a concise, accurate, and courteous manner to public inquiries.

• Provide information within his/her scope of knowledge or refer to an employee of higher classification.

• Perform all work in accordance with safety procedures manual.

• Work as a member of a team worker and maintain good working relationships with other employees.

• Follow detailed instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Degree or GED

• Must be 18 years of age.

• Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the City.

• Must be able to successfully pass background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Adequate hearing, correctable vision, manual dexterity to operate power equipment safely in a noisy work environment. Ability to perform physical labor including operating mechanical equipment for extended periods of time. Ability to perform tasks involving repetitive arm movements for extended periods of time. Ability to regularly lift 60 lbs. Equipment and materials in excess of this weight are lifted with assistance.
