Summary

Under general supervision, performs a variety of basic accounting and customer services duties related to collecting, processing, and receipting utility payments and related data.

Essential Functions

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Completes utility billing processing and receipting duties; collects and processes drop off and in-person payments; balances the receipts and cash drawers daily.
  • Answers phone calls and emails; provides general customer service; assists walk-in customers; responds to customer questions, complaints, and inquiries.
  • Updates and maintains the utility billing database system.
  • Processes business licenses applications and renewals; inputs license information into computer systems and submits to the appropriate department for review.
  • Maintains and verifies various accounting documents and records.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

High school diploma or GED equivalent AND two (2) years of cash handling or basic accounting related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • General office policies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.
  • Records maintenance and retention policies and procedures.
  • Basic accounting principles and practices.

Skill in:

  • Maintaining accurate records and filing systems.
  • Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Organizing and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Completing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
  • Preparing clear and concise communications, reports, and technical documents.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license.
