Provide excellent customer service to guests visiting museum facilities.
Job Responsibilities
-
- Greet the public and answers questions relating to the Anacortes museum mission for museum facilities. Assists with facility tours, presentations, and events.
- Responsible for opening and closing the museum facilities following established procedures.
- Responsible for staffing and cash handling of the Anacortes Museum Foundation gift shop.
- Assists in keeping the facility clean and safe for visitors.
- Follows safety policies and procedures and reports accidents/near misses in accordance with City policy.
- Assists with museum tasks and projects, as assigned.
- Assists with research files and requests.
- Operates the elevator for those unable to use the stairs.
- Responsible for selling admission tickets and proper cash handling techniques,
- Assist curator with general upkeep of the W.T. Preston boat and maintenance projects.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
- Must possess strong attention to detail, including the ability to proofread the work of self and others with high degree of accuracy.
- Must have basic knowledge of general office skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn City specific computer applications.
- Must be able to quickly acquire knowledge of the museum’s purpose, functions and procedures and applicable City procedures and practices.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with people and to calmly and efficiently handle situations ranging from routine to emergency. Must have ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
- Must know, respect and follow safety policies and procedures related to this field of work and ensure that other staff and volunteers follow same.
- Desirable to have knowledge of local history and museum procedures and practices.
Ability to:
- Must be able to work independently on projects.
- Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to be on call for emergencies.
Miscellaneous Information

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Perform duties under the guidance of the director, curator or other senior staff member, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily within the Anacortes Museum facilities and adjacent grounds. Work is performed in a museum environment where frequent interruptions are often present.
PHYSICAL: Must be able to lift and carry objects and materials up to 30 lbs. Must be able to maneuver stairs without difficulty. Must be able to work in confined spaces and on ladders. Must have sufficient visual, speaking, and hearing capabilities to respond to the public and complete detailed work assignments.

The City will pay for the examination. Satisfactory clearance to perform essential job functions will be required for employment. Schedule: This position is 24 hours per week, June - August and weekend availability is required (Saturday and Sunday).
