Job Description

To perform majority of routine service and maintenance for City vehicles and equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles, such as oil change, filter change, and lubrication.
  1. Perform minor repairs on all City equipment.
  2. Replace and balance tires.
  3. As directed, work alongside Equipment Mechanic while performing repairs, troubleshooting, and diagnosing to aid and give assistance.
  4. Perform work in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, and within mandated and appropriate safety standards.
  5. Sweep, mop and maintain clean and organized shop space.
  6. Assist in inventory of tools parts, supplies, and tools.
  7. Drive to pick up parts, supplies and shuttle vehicles.
  8. May perform portions of the work of higher classified positions occasionally, as assigned.
  9. May perform duties of similar complexity in any City department as required or assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a minimum 1-year service mechanic experience that includes service and repair work at an apprentice level.

Licenses and other requirements: Valid Washington State driver's license.

Knowledge of:

  • Must demonstrate mechanical knowledge

Ability to:

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to keep accurate electronic log of maintenance activities and work accomplished.
  • Ability to maintain excellent customer relations.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and focus on providing quality service.
  • Ability to use all standard tools and equipment necessary to perform duties as described.

Miscellaneous Information

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Receives close supervision in performance of regular, assigned duties. May perform some routine assignments independently following standard procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in the shop or in the field in all kinds of conditions of weather and terrain. Work may involve contact with hazardous wastes and other unpleasant materials when working on sewer jet vectors and garbage trucks. Work performed in this job may place the employee at risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

PHYSICAL: Physical ability and stamina sufficient to maintain continuous physical effort throughout shift, including frequent lifting, standing, stooping, bending, crawling, reaching, twisting, and climbing. Ability to work in close, confined spaces. Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under dirty and uncomfortable conditions and in all kinds of weather. Heavy labor is defined, for example, as exerting force sufficient to lift 80 to 100 pounds, sometimes overhead.
