About the Position:
The Production Technician – Mechanic III is a senior-level technical role within the Production Department. This position will work closely with the team lead and Production Management to support team operations through hands-on production work, training, and mentorship. This position performs advanced mechanical assembly, seat track assembly, tooling setup, and bonding fabrication while ensuring adherence to quality standards and engineering specifications. The Mechanic III serves as a technical resource for the team and may assume quality assurance responsibilities as needed.

Mentorship & Training Responsibilities
- Train and mentor newly assigned production personnel in mechanical assembly techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards
- Execute first-part inspections and spot checks to ensure team output meets established quality standards
- Resolve assembly problems, escalating complex issues to the Team Lead and Production Assistant Manager as needed
- Serve as a technical resource for the production team; may assume Quality Assurance tasks in the absence of the QA Representative
Mechanical Assembly & Fabrication
- Perform precision mechanical assembly, seat track assembly, tooling setup, and bonding fabrication as production needs require
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, technical specifications, and detailed work instructions
- Set up and validate jigs, fixtures, and tooling per engineering specifications
- Execute close-tolerance drilling, reaming, countersinking, and fastener installation/removal using appropriate tools and techniques
- Conduct riveting and sealing operations, applying corrosion inhibitors as required
- Position and align parts using templates, pilot holes, measuring tools, or hand layout methods; secure components using clamps and fixtures
- Apply bonding agents, sealants, adhesives, primers, and coatings; clean surfaces using approved chemical solvents
- Verify completed assemblies meet specifications through precise measurement
- Obtain kitted parts, standards, and assemblies; select proper tooling to perform assigned work
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Report malfunctioning equipment to the Production Supervisor; assist with repairs and routine maintenance as directed
- Control and maintain the preventive maintenance program for production equipment and customer-supplied tooling
- Maintain supplies inventory by anticipating needs and placing orders
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; assist in monitoring daily shop clean-up
Safety & Quality
- Adhere to all safety standards; wear required personal protective equipment for each task
- Work safely, identify and report potential hazards promptly
- Ensure all work is free from Foreign Object Debris (FOD)
- Follow company policies and procedures at all times

- Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Proficient in operating floor-mounted power tools (bandsaw, grinder, drill press, disc sander), hand tools, pneumatic tools, and precision measuring instruments

- Independent decision-making skills regarding accuracy and quality
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
- Effective time management skills; ability to prioritize and meet production deadlines

Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- A minimum of five years in a mechanical, technical, or manufacturing role
Required Experience
- 6+ months experience utilizing and following detailed work instructions, reading, and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications, in English.
- 1+ years of experience using high impact vibratory tools; such as bucking/riveting
- 3+ years experience in a technical or mechanical field performing work with basic hand, power, and/or pneumatic (air) tools.
- 5+ years experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly processes and procedures.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in aerospace, manufacturing, and/or fabrication.
- 1+ years experience in bonding/sealant/electrical bonding
Certificates
- Must have, or obtain, a valid Electrical Bonding & Ground Stud Installation and Bonding & Sealant Application certifications upon hire or are willing to obtain within three months of employment.
- Must take required courses to maintain Electrical Bonding & Ground Stud Installation and Bonding & Sealant Application certifications every two years.
- Chinook works with a vulnerable population, so all employees are required to submit and pass a Washington State Patrol background check as well as a DSHS background check.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move 10-35 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, bend and reach with hands and arms; reach above shoulder level; squat; flexion and extension (head bent down, head bent back); kneeling; bending at the waist; rotation of head/neck; standing; twisting at the waist and walking; climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces); crawling; and crouching (squatting).
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly in an indoor manufacturing/production facilities, generally sitting or standing for long periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate, requiring the use of hearing protection. The employee will work with hazardous and variable noise equipment, including power tools and hand tools. During short intervals, may work around dust and fumes from hazardous materials, including: glues, resins, sealants and other bonding agents. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required, by area.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Days and Hours: Monday – Friday, 6:00am to 2:30pm
Starting Wage: Level II: $27.33 – $32.67 per hour DOE
