Description of Company:

Chinook Enterprises is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1980. We are a non-profit designed to operate as a business, but with a social mission: supporting full participation in community life for people with disabilities or other barriers. Full participation must start with successful employment.

About the Position:

The job requires a general understanding of accounting principles in line with two years of bookkeeping experience or an associate’s degree in accounting. This will be a three-person department, with the clerk’s role primarily focused on collecting, categorizing and distribution of primary accounting transactional documents and data entry into accounting software. An intermediate level of computer skill is required, involving use of an accounting software package, Excel and other Microsoft applications as required. Work is independent, with supervision available to address non-routine questions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Collect, categorize, and distribute incoming vendor invoices, delivery notes for authorization and expenses coding.
  • Manage Accounts Payable inbox by printing and distributing incoming payment requests.
  • Obtain expenses authorization, expenses coding and enter payables into accounting software
  • Run weekly payable due and prepare payments request list/file for Controller’s payment process
  • Initiate Bi-weekly check runs and mail out corresponding payments
  • Deposit incoming checks and outgoing mail in a timely manner
  • Collect and distribute outgoing delivery pack slips to be billed
  • Maintain physical filing of primary accounting documents i.e. invoices, payment slips
  • Maintain and record petty cash disbursements
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation as needed
  • Assist Controller as needed with processing payroll, maintain payroll records, record payroll changes and file payroll change of status forms
  • Assist the Controller with quarterly and annual filings
  • Assist with month-end close tasks related to AP and AR balances
  • Provide backup to the Administrative Assistant including phone coverage as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of business correspondence
  • Knowledge of office machine operations, inclusive of copier, fax, printers, and postage meter
  • Basic Accounting knowledge
  • Proficient with Accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite or related software with the ability to learn to utilize new technologies
  • Maintain confidentiality of all vendors, financially related matters, staff/employees & program participants.
  • Adhere to corporate policies as detailed in the Policy & Procedures manual
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to manage multiple deadlines based on priority
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Ability to work well independently and as a collaborative team member.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s degree in accounting or Bookkeeping Certification preferred
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in accounting office or related experience is preferred
  • A combination of experience and education may be substituted for these requirements

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

  • Washington State Driver’s License, vehicle liability insurance and be insurable required.
  • Chinook works with a vulnerable population, so all employees are required to submit and pass a Washington State Patrol background check as well as a DSHS background check.
  • Must have, or obtain, a CPR/First Aid certification within six months of employment or current certification upon hire.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move 20-30 pounds. The employee is regularly required to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time. The employee must be able to access and navigate each department onsite. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, squat or crouch.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely indoors in an office type setting. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts or outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally low.

SALARY & BENEFITS

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Days & Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday (20 hours/week)

Level I Starting Wage: $28.18 – $33.70 per hour DOE
