About the Position:
The Landscaping Specialist – I is a full time or part time, non-exempt position which functions within the Landscaping Department of the agency. The position comes under the direct supervision of the Landscaping Manager. Most of the work is done off-site throughout the community, performing landscape maintenance duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Perform production work as assigned by the Landscaping Manager.
  • Work independently, prioritizing work for the day as assigned.
  • Inspect work performed daily before leaving the job site.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper working order as needed.
  • May operate hand mowers, tractors, edgers, blowers and other similar landscape maintenance equipment.
  • Perform lawn mowing, raking, litter sweeps as directed by the manager.
  • Prepare the truck daily with appropriate tools and equipment needed for successful completion of the job.
  • Load and unload the truck of grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs, and debris from daily maintenance work.
  • Clean the truck and equipment at the end of the shift as required.
  • Alert supervisor of any problems with machinery or tools used for tasks.
  • Work safely, report potential hazards and follow company safety standards.
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner and use adequate eye and ear protection as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of landscape maintenance equipment operation, preferred.

Certificates

  • Required to submit and pass a Washington State Patrol background check as well as a DSHS background check.
  • Must have, or obtain, a CPR certificate within six months of employment or current certification upon hire.
  • The selected candidate will be required to provide proof of the COVID-19 vaccination prior to hire, unless appropriately accommodated.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move 20-40 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, bend and reach with hands and arms; and use feet to operate foot pedal operation. Occasionally required to climb ladders, sit, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly outdoors exposed to various outdoor weather conditions and work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is generally loud and requires the use of hearing protection. Other PPE includes: safety shoes, glasses, gloves and hard hats or high visibility vests.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Days and Hours:

March-October: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 2:00 pm

November-February: Monday (only), 7:30 am to 2:00 pm

Starting Wage:

Level I: $17.46 – 20.87 DOE
