Are you ready to join as a Seasonal Registered Nurse? In this role, as a Registered Nurse you’ll provide direct nursing care to campers living with chronic and life-altering medical conditions. Camp Korey provides a safe and meaningful summer camp experience for children who have undergone solid organ transplant, as well as those living with various skin conditions, mitochondrial disease, skeletal dysplasia, metabolic bone conditions, craniofacial differences, and other life-altering medical conditions. You’ll collaborate with volunteer medical staff and the support team to ensure that campers are provided with the highest quality of care.

What you'll be doing:

  • Collaborate with staff and volunteer providers to provide nursing care and monitor the health status of campers and their families.
  • As needed, prepare and administer medications as scheduled and as necessary to campers and staff in accordance with Treatment Guidelines and/or physician orders.
    • Methods of administration include: oral, IM, SQ, IV, topical, ophthalmic, nebulizer.
  • As needed, provide routine procedures as scheduled and as necessary for each camper, including the care of internal and external central lines, dressing changes, G-Tube and other continuous/bolus feeds, urinary catheters, etc.
  • Triage campers upon arrival to the medical building and provide care as needed.
  • Deliver first aid to campers as detailed in the Treatment Guidelines.
  • Documentation and record keeping as outlined in the Medical Manual.
  • Accompany EMT and campers during transport to medical facility in camp vehicle or ambulance as necessary.
  • Work as first contact for camper related issues overnight on-call.
  • Ensure that the medical center and the health care at camp is in compliance with all state, national, ACA, and SeriousFun Children’s Network regulations.
  • Prepare for any possible site visits from regulatory agencies (Department of Health, SFCN, ACA).
  • Reviews and proposes updates to camp health policies (including standing orders, immunization policies, etc.) and medical emergency preparedness plan.
  • Maintains required federal and state records and reports regarding the use of narcotics and restricted medications at camp.
  • Maintains and orders appropriate inventory of medications, equipment, supplies and linens for the medical center and ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Participates in assuring the safety of the facility from the medical perspective.
  • Serve as an educational resource for staff and volunteers in regard to the illnesses and medical needs of their specific campers as well as the growth, development, and hygiene of children.
  • Communicate with parents regarding the health and care of their child.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to medical volunteers as assigned.
  • Adhere to standard and universal precautions.
  • Maintain camp standards of confidentiality with regard to camper medical records.
  • Provide supervision at high-risk activities.
  • When needed, in support of campers and families, provide personal care to campers who require assistance with the acts of daily living.

What you'll need to bring (necessary requirements):

  • Commit to being onsite the entire length of the contract term: APRIL 1 - SEPTEMBER 30 2025
  • Joy in being silly! You’ll be participating in cheers, dances, songs, and other general kid fun!
  • Ability to “go with the flow” in schedule, people, and program changes.
  • Willingness to be uncomfortable, have hard moments, and be open to changing.
  • Ability to learn and use necessary computer software (equivalent of social media).
  • A continuous improvement mindset to the services provided and your own growth.
  • Physical ability to sustain 10+ hour days of activities, functional ability to clean and participate in activities.

Certificates/ Licenses/ Registrations necessary to meet Camp Korey requirements:

  • Valid WA State Registered Nurse license
  • DEA License
  • BLS certification
  • CPR / AED Certification
  • Clinical proficiency with medical procedures, equipment, protocols used at camp (IV access, central venous and port access, G-tubes, and pumps)
  • Professional nursing experience with children ages 4-17
  • Immunization history with current vaccines and boosters including COVID
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable self-transportation to areas not served by mass transit; driving record acceptable to Camp Korey’s insurance policy
  • Acceptable background check clearance

We'd love it if you already had (preferred requirements):

  • ARNP license
  • PALS certification
  • Therpeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification
  • Teaching experience
  • Camp experience! Especially work experience! Even better if it was at a SeriousFun or other specialized camp!
  • Life or professional experience with individuals with terminal or life-altering medical conditions
  • Communication capability in multiple languages
