Position Summary: The Marketing and Tourism Specialist provides information to travelers, visitors, newcomers, and the public. The specialist will enthusiastically promote Burlington, its attractions, shopping, restaurants, and accommodations to encourage repeat visitation. Qualifications:

• High School degree or GED

• Experience with Squarespace, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, and Constant Contact preferred.

• Experience in the use of MS Office products is a must

• Experience in tourism preferred.

• Demonstrates knowledge and familiarity with the Skagit Valley and surrounding areas, specifically Burlington and surrounding areas.

• Demonstrates ability to work independently and as an influential team member.

• Demonstrates professionalism in appearance, demeanor, and communication (oral and written).

• Demonstrates dependability and personal responsibility to accomplish tasks as required.

• Demonstrates ability to work independently and as an influential team member.

• Ensure all publications, emails, and communications (electronic, written, and verbal) are communicated with a high level of professionalism, clearly articulated, with appropriate sentence structure, engaging graphics, and free of typographical errors.

• Attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

• Some lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds intermittently.

• Requirements occur in an office environment, including keyboarding, file retrieval, and communication (verbal and written).

• Ability to sit, walk and stand for up to two hours routinely.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provides back-up to the VIC Receptionist in answering phones and greeting visitors who come into the VIC. Tracks all visits and calls to the VIC in conjunction with the VIC Receptionist.

  2. Answers questions about a wide variety of topics. Provides information needed to support the visitor. Suggests additional activities that might be of interest. Recommends local lodging, shopping, and dining opportunities. Assists visitors with overnight accommodations. Suggests local activities such as movies, parks, shopping, hiking, camping, etc.

  3. Manages the Visit Burlington WA, and Berry Dairy Days website, including updating it with postings, current businesses, and resource information. Market/Promote Burlington as a tourist destination.

  4. Manages the Visit Burlington WA and Berry Dairy Days social media platforms in a timely manner with relevant content. This includes Meta Business Suite, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Google my business.

  5. Coordinates Ad buys with various vendors within budget and creates Ads.

  6. Creates marketing campaign plans for all tourism marketing.

  7. Coordinates and creates at least quarterly tourism newsletters ensuring that each is distributed electronically and/or in print to the appropriate people promptly.

  8. Corresponds emails with important Burlington Tourism news, announcements, or pressing information.

  9. Coordinates Tourism Committee meeting with the goals set by the CEO.

  10. Tracks weekly social media analytics as working to build presence there and tracks monthly website analytics.

  11. Manages the Chamber website, including updating it with announcements, personnel, postings, and all information presented in a timely and professional manner.

  12. Manages Burlington Chamber social media platforms in a timely manner with relevant content. This includes Meta Business Suite, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google my business.

  13. All publications, emails, and communications (electronic, written and verbal) are communicated with a high level of professionalism, clearly articulated, with appropriate sentence structure, engaging graphics, and free of typographical errors. Proofreads documents to ensure accuracy and professionalism.

  14. Provides support to the CEO and staff as requested and may cross-train on various responsibilities. Assists with events as needed.

  15. Maintains a neat, uncluttered work area to present a professional appearance to our visitors.

  16. Assists with Chamber projects and events as needed.

  17. Other duties as assigned.
